Decentralized AI teams like Prime Intellect and Nous Research have been breaking apart the pre-training process and optimizing different parts bit by bit. And it turns out that massive reductions in GPU communication is in fact possible. The thing that surprised me most was how collaborative the process has been with centralized AI teams and researchers such as DeepMind, Meta, etc. These hardware optimization problems that DeAI companies are working on help everyone in AI!
