I installed on a surface pro 5 Umbrel and then the Bitcoin node and Public Pool software is an easy click from the software “store” built in (free) and I think I was done in about 30 minutes if you include the prep time of using Rufus to build the USB flash drive for the Umbrel install. The Bitcoin node took 4 days to finish the sync and its been running in pruning mode so Umbrel total storage capacity hovers around 330 gigabytes. I do the configuration and monitoring from a seperate surface pro using web browser with a ssh tweak to turn off/on the display of the Umbrel surface pro. The newer surface pros have 1Tb or larger NVMe and could handle an non-pruined Node storage (Grok said to be around 740G currently.) The version SPro5 only has two 512G which in windows normally runs as a combined 1Tb Microsoft Storage space.

I’m running my own node on UmbrelOS (Raspberry Pi 5) and using Public Pool, which pulls transactions directly from my local mempool (via getblocktemplate) rather than relying on a pool’s template. That means I’m effectively solo mining with my own node’s mempool and full autonomy over block composition. It’s as decentralized as it gets — now just need to hit that jackpot! 🧡⚡️🚀
